Emily is a Belgian photographer born in Brussels and based in Lisbon. With an academic background in Journalism and Anthropology, she further studied documentary photography at ESA Brussels. Her work is research-based, self-initiated and also commissioned.

Naturally curious and a stare-er, the frame allows her to translate and organise what catches her attention. Her personal work questions the relationship between the man-made and nature whilst exploring the correspondence between the collective imaginary and scapes.

Through documentary and story-driven imagery, her practice explores narratives that shine light on the backstory through mainly portraiture and landscapes. The camera becomes a pretext to dive into a habitat and decipher ecosystems. Her approach is immersive and attentive, resulting in a body of work that feels composed, textured and deeply human moving between the intimate and the contextual, revealing the subtle tensions between inner and outer scapes.

On request, she enthusiastically shoots food, life style and interiors.

Alongside commissioned work, she develops long-term personal projects, currently focusing on the representation of women within the Portuguese collective imaginary.

Fluent in French, English, Portuguese and Spanish, she works locally and internationally.
