They say a language is a prism on our own reality, surroundings and environment. When relocating to Portugal, I really felt like a girl, woman, the female gender was strongly established and transleted into the language. I had never felt like this... A was my -our- letter. Sou uma meninA.

I started to wonder whom I might be if I had grouwn up in Portugal what kind of rapariga would I be ? Where are the woman in the public space?

Ever exploring the portuguese collective imaginary, I get drawn to the sea over and over again, the Atlantic, the coast, The seaguls, the boats, the fishermen...

The sea is central to Portuguese culture... but where are the woman represented ?

I went on a quest to find the local woman that work with the sea and brave the Atlantic on daily basis... Very few exist.. These are the ones I came across... Maria, Vanda and Filomena...
